The National City Intergenerational Learning Centre, which was created in partnership between the Sweetwater Union High School District’s Alternative Education Department and the San Diego County Building Trades Council Family Housing Corporation, with donated time and materials of many departments, companies and corporations. The Learning Centre is designed to handle SUHSD’s Alternative Education Program, after school assistance for students and adults with their children’s work enhancement programs.
Initially conceived as a computer lab for residents and their children, the Building Trades and the Sweetwater school district signed an agreement to create a learning resource center for students who required independent study opportunities. This successful program has helped the district by having a site located within the National City Community and the building trades by giving back to the community.
